How To Clean Wooden Kitchen Cabinets

Author: tony

Cleaning wooden kitchen cabinets is not that tough. Actually, it worth a few hours of the day. You do not really need special cleaners or some sort of expensive solutions in order to clean your wood kitchen cabinets. In some cases, cleaning your wooden kitchen cabinets depend on the finishing of your cabinets. If the finishing in your cabinet is damaged, you will face some difficulty during cleaning.

Your cabinets get damaged because of oxidation and light.Irony is that you can not do anything about these two things. Some of the common finishes that are found on wooden kitchen cabinets are conversion finishes, lacquer, varnish and shellac.

Cabinet industry at this moment of time is using conversion finishes because they are durable, fast drying and moisture resistant. Wooden kitchen cabinets of conversion finishes are easy to clean. To clean wooden kitchen cabinets of any quality, you will need soft cloth, water and mild soap. Wash your cabinets in a gentle way. Make sure that you do not leave any water on the wood surface of your cabinet.

You can put lemon oil on your wooden kitchen cabinets if they are looking a bit dull to you. Before you do that, remember the point that putting lemon oil on your cabinet can create some issues at the time of refinishing because oil will be there in the wood surface. It has been noticed that lacquer and conversion finishes dry very quickly. The only limitation being that they don’t cure for around six months. Therefore, putting lemon oil on lacquer and conversion finish is not advisable.

It’s always better to clean your wooden kitchen cabinets with a high quality furniture polish when you are washing cabinet with soap and water. Use of too much water can have a negative impact on the finishing, more so if it’s not wiped up fast. Use of mild soap such as Ivory and Murphy’s Oil Soap is recommended in cleaning wooden kitchen cabinets. Both of these soaps are quite gentle in nature so it will not be harmful for wood. Another good thing about these soaps is that no oil or lye is left in the finished product.

Cabinets are a very important part of your school, office or house whether they are installed in kitchen, bedroom, living area, laundry or bathroom. They offer a beautiful and practical solution for storage too.

Elegance For the Bathroom – Choosing Soap Dispensers

Author: tony

People have been searching for years to find a way to have soap conveniently placed in their bathrooms and showers. They have tried everything from metal shower racks to soap-on-a-rope to simply sitting the soaps and cleansing products around the edge of the shower or sink. Now, there are new attractive soap dispensers that solve the problem of convenience and appearance at the same time.

Aviva makes a soap and shampoo dispenser with three separate bottles. The colors of the hair and body cleansing products glow through the translucent 10 ounce containers. The exterior working parts are chrome or white plastic. These include the push button shampoo and soap dispensers, as well as the bottoms and lids. They can be used in the shower, the tub, or at a sink. Aviva also makes a corner shampoo dispenser that saves space in the shower.

The Signature group of soap dispensers features satin nickel as their accent trim and visible moving parts. Their pumps deliver the correct amount of shampoo, lotion, soap, or conditioner each time you depress the button. They even have special storage hooks where you can hang razors and other important items. They have beautiful ribbed glass for a sophisticated appearance. They come in single or triple container soap dispensers.

If you need somewhere to put soap for a vanity sink, a touchless soap dispenser might be just the right thing for you. Touchless soap dispensers use infrared technology to release a set amount of soap when you put your hands under the sensor. You initially choose the amount of soap that will come out by setting the pushbutton selector. A touchless soap dispenser stays cleaner and much more sanitary than one which people are constantly putting their unwashed hands on.

To add elegance and convenience in your bathroom, look for a distinctive set of soap dispensers. Shampoo dispensers are not only handy; they can also be quite colorful when different shampoos are used. Of course, the height of luxury and refinement is the touchless soap dispensers. Any one of these different types of soap dispensers will be a great addition to your bathroom.

How Do I Treat A Cast Iron Skillet?

Author: tony

FACTORY NEW: Cast iron pans fresh from the factory usually are treated with a coating to prevent them from rusting before they sell. This coating is not good to eat and it may contain plastic or wax, so it’s a good idea to go over your pan with steel wool before seasoning the pan or using it for the first time. After scouring it with steel wool, wash your skillet or pan in hot soapy water and then place over heat until dry. After you have cleaned and dried your new pan, condition it before using.

RUST: If your pan or skillet is presently rusty, clean off the rust with steel wool first. You can recondition virtually any cast iron skillet or pot, no matter how yucky it is when you find it. After you have scoured off the rust, wash it and dry it over heat. Then condition your pan.

TO CONDITION: If it is new, recently cleaned with steel wool, or otherwise not greasy, you need to “season” or “condition” it first before cooking. To do this, put it on a hot burner, add a couple of tablespoons of cooking oil. Allow to get hot, then to cool, then wipe the oil all over, then wipe off any excess oil.

TO CLEAN: There are different methods, but perhaps the best method is the one that never uses soap. Soap will strip the skillet of the oil, and it is supposed to have oil on it! Unlike other pans, a good cast iron piece will be black with residual oil. This prevents the pan from rusting and the metal from reacting with the food, and the oil also makes it work like a non-stick pan. So instead of soap, use salt to clean the pan. Coarse kosher salt is good for this purpose because it is the right coarseness and you can get a large box cheaply.

When you’re done cooking, rinse out your pan, dump in a tablespoon or two of salt and scrub the pan just with salt and water combined in a thick, grainy paste. Rinse, then put the pan on the burner again and heat to dry the pan before putting it away (so it doesn’t rust). The pan still has oil on it but it’s clean, so next time you cook you can just begin cooking without having to condition the pan again.

Natural Soaps Make a Splash!

Author: tony

There is so much debate over the term “natural”. The debate extends to food, and in my case, natural soaps. There are some who argue that natural is only a word given to pure, unadulterated materials that come straight from Mother Nature. Certainly, that IS natural in the clearest sense of the word.

But for other things that are produced or made that nature only gives us the materials to make them with, comes the debate. Natural soaps are produced from those materials such as oils from the olive and coconut. How the oils are produced spurs a debate as well. Are they produced using solvents, are they refined, deodorized, or even bleached?

Natural soap claims are widespread and the competitive nature of humans causes them to question whether this person has the more natural soap or that person. Clearly, part of the problem is the race to the finish line to see who has the better or more natural product in the end. The other part of the problem is the splitting hairs one – is soap that contain fragrance oil “natural”, or does it contain a preservative, and if so, is the preservative “natural.” On and on it could go. I will not even mention the fact that all soap is made with lye.

Since my life is complicated enough as it is, trying to decide what is natural only makes more confusion and doubt. I have decided to take the wider road, as it is, in terms of natural soap or even food. When we buy food from a box, it is not natural. If you buy fresh meat to cook, is it natural? Yes, it is natural, although it may contain other ingredients not indigenous to the animal it came from.

When you buy soap from the store, is it natural? Likely not, since it contains detergents, which are all synthetics. So, when you buy natural soap, is it really natural? I would say yes, even though it may contain fragrance oil in a small percentage. It was produced from materials that occur in nature and those materials were produced with as little adulteration as possible so that what I am ending up with is a soap that is as natural as natural can be.

It becomes a major ordeal at times to try to discern what is in this and what is in that. I hope that at least where my soap is concerned, the only choice is to decide which one is the favorite, and there is no worry as to what it contains for those who are using it. It is one less thing to think about in today’s really crazy world.

Do Kitchen Soap Dispensers Help Eliminate Germs?

Author: tony

To keep from spreading germs we all know we must wash our hands regularly, several times a day in fact. Washing your hands regularly is by far the best way to control the spread of colds and other illnesses. Make washing hands easier on yourself and your family by having attractive soap dispensers in your home. A kitchen soap dispenser is the best place to start.

The kitchen is a very popular place and you want it to be attractive to both family and guests that stop by. There are many little things that you can do to your kitchen to make it more functional and attractive. A kitchen soap dispenser can be an integral part of your kitchen decor. Whether you have a ceramic soap dispenser that sits on the countertop or one that is mounted to save space is your choice. Stop having that messy bar of soap on your countertop that slides around and leaves that yucky soap film.

You can even have a hands free dispenser which will eliminate the chance of passing germs from one user to the other. Having a dispenser handy will make it more likely for people to wash their hands. Your kitchen sink may already have a dispenser as part of it. Use it if you have it. If you don’t have a dispenser there are plenty of styles to choose from. A wall mounted hands free soap dispenser is about the easiest type you can get. Just put your hands underneath and a predetermined amount of soap will be dispensed. This way you don’t have to have both hands free, which probably will make it easier for you to work in the kitchen.

Think of your kitchen as a show place. It is highly used and should be the best looking place in your house. Try changing some little things and see what a big difference it makes.
